Drug Activity

It's note working

Our community has lost its way. Too many people caught in the grip of addiction are heading down a dark path—one that too often ends in tragedy. What we’re doing now isn’t working. It’s failing the addict, their families, and all of us.

In 2024, the legislature overturned Governor Scott’s veto on safe injection sites. In 2025, I voted NO on funding the safe injection site in Burlington. WCAX’s in-depth report, linked below, shows why these sites are not the solution. We need to help people change, not enable continued harm. Addiction is a mental health crisis, and we must treat it like one. I support mandatory rehab after overdoses—not just to keep individuals safe, but to give their families peace of mind.

At the same time, we must get tough on those who sell poison in our communities. If your drug sales lead to a death, charges like involuntary manslaughter or manslaughter should apply. Yet, people dealing large amounts of drugs can be back on the street within days. That’s unacceptable. They threaten the safety of our friends, neighbors, and families.

Our community is being held hostage by feckless politicians pushing bad legislation, ineffective state’s attorneys who fail to prosecute offenders, and lenient judges who let dangerous criminals walk free. In 2025, I supported ending the youthful offender law and sponsored legislation to protect residents from nonresident drug dealers operating in apartment complexes. Both efforts were blocked by the majority party.

I will keep fighting to bring accountability to those responsible for the destruction caused by drugs in our neighborhoods. Our community deserves better—and I won’t stop pushing for real solutions.

Safe injection sites may reduce immediate overdose deaths but ultimately enable continued drug use without addressing addiction’s root causes. They risk normalizing drug use, increasing drug-related activity and public safety concerns in neighborhoods, and fail to provide the treatment and recovery support people truly need to change their lives.
